Well of course on an 11-day adventure there are going to be confrontations and of course when there are about 50 people around you 24/7 for those 11 days there are going to be people- or relationship-confrontations.
One of the areas where I experienced a confrontation, or an area of growth, was being a part of the food team. Because Anke and I were allocated as the leaders of food team five, whenever something went wrong, we were responsible for it… and oh boy, with so many people and so many logistics, it is easy for something to go wrong with the food preparations!
There were a few times when we ran out of some ingredients, like milk for coffee, and other times when either the food was still frozen or the menu was adjusted last minute because not all of the ingredients were available to buy. Between these few mishaps and forgetting to buy a few things from the shopping list before going into Punda Maria, it just built up into a bit of an emotional bubble.
The day that I ended up having the GoPro, that little emotional bubble popped and I found myself crying on Quinien’s shoulder and when we went to Tarryn to explain the situation, I ended up crying on her shoulder too.
In this moment I had to grow to accept it when mistakes happen, but then instead of wallowing in self-pity and just feeling down, I should take the mistake head-on and try my best to rectify it. I also had to realise that I must not be moved by my emotions, but rather let my spirit-man gain ascendancy and solve the problem.
